WPM Lab’s Ph.D. Candidate Ganesh Patil’s recent work on “Shear Wave-induced Friction at Periodic Interfaces for Programmable Mechanical Responses” has been accepted for publication in the ASME’s Journal of Applied Mechanics. This work introduces a platform of using hysteretic nonlinearity in a phononic material to enable programmable mechanical responses via loading history of acoustic waves. This work is a result of a collaboration of our lab with Dr. Alfredo Fantetti from Imperial College London.
